NAIOP Northern Virginia working definition of green development:
Structures and their associated landscapes that are located, designed, constructed, operated, and dismantled in an environmentally responsible manner to minimize short- and long-term negative impacts on the environment and building occupants.

Mission Statement:
To actively monitor, participate, and engage in green development initiatives that pertain to the commercial development community.

Goals:

  • To provide external leadership and representation for NAIOP Northern Virginia and the commercial real estate community in local government affairs related to green development
  • To serve as an internal resource for NAIOP Northern Virginia that provides education, outreach, and awareness of green development issues and practices to members
  • Work with local governments to advocate for incentives for green development
  • Work with state government to advocate for incentives for green development
  • Develop strategic alliances with other organizations that will help NAIOP Northern Virginia achieve its mission
  • Develop educational tools and resources related to green development for our members (conferences, green development guides, weblinks)
