The Education Committee plans Northern Virginia NAIOP’s monthly luncheons, semi-annual forecasts, and seminars. Duties of the Committee include: selection of programs topics, confirmation of speakers, arrangements with hotels, and promotional material for each event. Committee members also act as hosts to the speakers on the day of the program. The Committee meets monthly.

The Awards Committee is responsible for planning the Chapter’s annual awards presentation and its corresponding social function. The Committee, with approval from the Executive Committee, decides what awards will be presented, writes the criteria for each award, formulates all budgetary considerations, and writes and/or supervises all marketing materials concerning the awards call for entries and the awards program. Duties also include the selection of awards judges, judging criteria, and logistics concerning the judging of the awards. The Committee proposes the format, style and theme for the event and helps with any set-up the day of the function. The Committee meets at the call of the chairmen.

The Bus Tour Committee with the cooperation of the regional EDAs, hosts a Spring Bus Tour with emphasis on economic development opportunities in the Northern Virginia region. Responsibilities of the Committee include the route of the tour, promotional materials, statistics and articles for the guidebook, the tradeshow and sponsorships. The Committee meets at the call of the chairmen.

The Golf Committee oversees two tournaments a year, one in the spring and the other in the fall. The Committee is responsible for site selection, marketing materials, prizes, set up the day of the event, and sponsorships (tees, greens, hole-in-ones, meals and prizes).

The Committee is responsible for working with the Virginia Association for Commercial Real Estate (VACRE) to monitor statewide legislation and regulatory issues and to develop strategies which VACRE pursues at the State Capitol. The Committee also monitors local legislative and regulatory issues which are brought forward from the five Northern Virginia jurisdictional subcommittees (Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William) (link) and the Green Development subcommittee and the Transportation subcommittee. NAIOP members may serve on one or more subcommittees depending upon their interests and expertise. A member may also serve on a subcommittee without serving on the Government Relations Committee. Draft positions, which are formulated through the committee and subcommittee process, are taken before the NAIOP Board of Directors for discussion and approval. Members are often asked to participate in task forces or commissions dealing with industry related issues. The Government Relations Committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at lunchtime. Each subcommittee has its own meeting schedule.

The Membership Committee is responsible for the recruitment and retention of Chapter members.
