NAIOP Northern Virginia inaugurated a Developing Leaders Mentor Program in 2011. Designed to create an informal exchange between NAIOP Northern Virginia’s Developing Leaders (DLs) and existing leaders in the commercial real estate industry, the program promotes professional growth for individual DLs by acting as a forum for education and networking with peers and seasoned professionals. The DL Mentor Program is available to any member of the chapter who is 35 years or under. Seasoned real estate professionals from the chapter’s leadership have agreed to be mentors. Each mentor will have a group of four to five people who he/she will meet with a minimum of six times during the year. Meetings may include a project tour, a case study, a social event such as a ball game or golf outing, etc. Each mentor group will have the opportunity to establish its own goals and objectives for the year.

And how do you get their boss invested in this new technology and communication tools?
The information that was presented in this program will help attendees get started successfully using social media tools to promote themselves and/or their businesses. The NAIOP Northern Virginia Developing Leaders Committee hosted a Kick-Off Event on Wednesday, September 22, at Park Tower in Falls Church. The event was sponsored by ING Clarion.
Over 290 people from across the region registered to join the committee for a fun-filled evening that included good food and music, fabulous door prizes, and networking with peers and leaders from all sectors of the business.
The Developing Leaders Committee held the event to introduce the group to current NAIOP members and non-members, and to promote their mission for engaging the 35 and under segment of professionals in the commercial real estate development industry. The committee is dedicated to accomplishing this through their four pillars of involvement – Education, Mentorship, Community Outreach, and Social/Networking.
"NAIOP Developing Leaders builds a unique setting for tomorrow's real estate leaders to interact, both professionally and socially, with more senior and established professionals, who will provide responsible leadership and ongoing support that will shape Northern Virginia and the region in the years to come." Mark DeLuca, ING Clarion
